Ahhh… after many hours of various adventures in traveling we made it to San Juan and are resting comfortably in our hotel! We left our house Thursday night at 11:30 pm to spend the night at the airport because of the over-sensationalized news of the coming 6-8" snow. We were concerned about driving through a blizzard friday morning to catch our 7:30 am flight, so we decided to play it extremely conservative and get to the airport late at night and just sleep there. What we didn’t realize was that baggage drop off and security are not open between midnight and 4:30 a.m.! So we slept in various public, non-secure areas of the airport (which don’t have any bars or restaurants) until 4:30 a.m., when we were able to drop off our bags and go thru security. We had breakfast at a cute little diner-style place and went to our gate. The flight from DTW to ATL was delayed take off by about an hour due to weather/de-icing/runway back-ups, so we arrived in Atlanta over 30 minutes late, and had to RUN from our arrival gate to the departure gate, what a work out! But we made it; all sweaty, but happy to have made it on. Then… had to laugh because that flight was delayed by over 90 minutes due to rain! We sat on the runway waiting for them to find a safe re-route for the plane from Atlanta to San Juan. They finally figured one out and we were allowed to take off. The 3 hour flight was made more enjoyable by a $6 “lunchbox” purchase, which was surprisingly good and organic! Pita and hummus, organic jelly beans, graham crackers and Nutella, yum. We just arrived in San Juan safely, grabbed a cab and found our hotel, the Quality Inn, which is awesomely within walking distance of 3 Starbucks, and right next to a bar/pizzeria! We are all set!
