During our first night in Toronto we found this amazing Thai tapas place (although I’m pretty sure they don’t have “tapas” in Thailand!) a few blocks from the hotel. We knew they had several veggie options but were not prepared for an entire Vegan menu! We felt like saying… “yes, please bring them all” when the waiter asked us if we knew what we wanted. We opted for a couple of coconut curry tofu dishes and an “imitation fish” dish. We eat imitation meats almost daily but we never find any vegan imitation fish, so we were excited about the idea of a fish dish. Nestor was immediately thinking about the possibility of making imitation fish in our future sailing adventures! Once we tasted it, however, we realized that there was one major problem: It tasted like fish! I mean… like, right out-of-the-fish-market, slimy, gross, salty fish! The taste was so insanely realistic that it made us feel we were actually eating fish – and, surprisingly, rather than excited we were a bit grossed out. So we put the fish aside and gravitated to familiar flavors of the coconut curry tofu, veggie spring rolls, and amazing Tiger Beer (although Yolanda eventually ate all the “fish”!). All in all, a highly successful first night in Toronto.
