I (Nestor) have been working on a new photography project that I want to explore as we start sailing the globe. I want to capture the landscapes, ships, and people I encounter and tell brief photo stories of those I meet during our travels. Less than a year to go! A five-year plan update.

It’s a few months into 2023 and we realize that we haven’t written an annual update on what we are doing and where we are in THE plan. Time is really flying by now. It is incredible when you spend a few years telling people you are working on a five-year plan to retire early and sail around the world and then before you know it there is less than a year to go. Nearly ten years ago, we started to dream up our wildest vision for an amazing, adventurous, fulfilling future, the idea developed organically over time but then when Yolanda’s dad was diagnosed with cancer we saw the danger in waiting too long. So we began creating spreadsheets, doing calculations and projections, took on extra jobs and then just put it all in grind mode. One day at a time. One extra shift at a time. One less car at a time. Last birthday on dry land! This 42nd year is going

Last birthday on dry land! This 42nd year is going to be a wild one ✌🏻. I am winding down my career job at the end of April, studying for an ACE certification, crossing the Atlantic West --> East ⛵️, having another Carpal Tunnel surgery, launching a virtual Health Coaching business, spending a week in Antigua doing boat projects, taking a bucket-list trip to Antarctica ❄️, celebrating the holidays with family/friends and then by the first week of January 2024 moving onto a cute lil catamaran named Blue Buddha ⚓️ and starting a totally new, adventurous chapter: Boat Life. With less than 1,000nm to go, the wind has died an

With less than 1,000nm to go, the wind has died and will continue to die over the next few days, in a very unusual case of doldrums due to a front that stopped the trade winds and caught everyone by complete surprise. The wind is currently blowing <10 kn and predictions as the days go on and specifically into Tuesday are only to get worse, with some areas predicted to get as low as ZERO knots. The boats in the ARC Rally have little choice but to motor if they want to get back before Christmas, but they can’t start motoring too soon or they will run out of fuel. Games Maker II is currently sailing as far as possible until they are in “diesel range” and then will start motoring to complete the crossing to St. Lucia. There is a bit of gambling, scheming, calculating and camaraderie going on right now, as there is chat on the radio between boats of diesel being sold to the highest bidder, lol. At least they are having fun with it. So the current ETA onboard is to be able to start motoring Sunday or Monday, with an eventual arrival to St Lucia on Saturday, Dec 10th *fingers crossed.*
