Day 6 – Barbados – Tiami Catamaran Sail, Turtles & Beach

Finally we got to sleep in! Today we had an excursion that didn’t meet until 12:30 pm, all four previous excursions met at 8:15 am on the pier, so today we ordered room service, and then also went to the Windjammer Cafe for another round of breakfast (gotta get our $$ worth!). After that, we actually came back and took a nap; the past four days of excursions have been a lot of work – Snorkeling/Hiking @ Gorda Baths, Kayaking/Snorkeling @ St. Maarteen, Mountain Biking 13 miles on St. Kitts, & a challenging Ropes Course/Ziplines on Dominica. So today we slept in, then took a nap and went on a Catamaran/Snorkeling adventure on Barbados. It took about 45 minutes at a relaxing speed to get to Turtle Bay. Then we all donned our snorkel gear and got into the (slightly cold, but gorgeous turquoise) water to get a chance to swim with Green Back turtles. One of the guides had a bag of fish to lure the turtles in, and the group of ~25 of us were swimming slowly nearby hoping to see and touch a turtle. There were at least 3 different turtles that came close enough to touch, their shells were hard and smooth and it was awesome to be so close to such a beautiful creature in its natural habitat. After about 15 minutes in the water, we were both done and went back on board where the rum was being poured. We had rum punch, captains punch and some tasty local Barbados beer on draft. We hung out on the ship for nearly an hour, while everyone was drinking, mingling & listening to music; we were supposed to have swum to shore to hang out on the beach, but… it was raining and the alcohol was on the ship after all. This was one of the most relaxing and fun excursions we have done on this trip. We are looking forward to dressing up again tonight for the last formal dinner. And then tomorrow is a full day at sea, can’t wait to sleep in and relax all day before heading home and going back to reality. We also have an appointment tonight to meet with the Onboard Booking staff to book our next cruise for March 2013 – we are going on another Southern Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean – Adventure of the Seas, it leaves out of San Juan, Puerto Rico and goes to St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Aruba and Curacao. We are hoping that some of our friends will join us again, so much fun!
