Day 2 – British Virgin Islands – Virgin Gorda

For our first day on land we signed up for a snorkeling excursion on Virgin Gorda, a small island off Tortola. We left our ship at 8 am and were greeted by the tour guide who walked our group to what looked like an oversized pontoon boat. There we met Shocka, the captain of the boat who looked like T Pain’s twin and his assistant Miguel, who resembled Usher – at least to us. After a 50 min boat ride listening to the standard dosage of Bob Marley tunes, we arrived at the island. Little did we know that this was a serious snorkeling trip. The boat anchored away from the shore and we then learned that everyone would jump in and swim to shore! After the nice swim we arrived a stunning small island covered in gigantic boulders that created a series of caves. We were able to hike through, up and over some of the rocks and after about 15 minutes of hiking and climbing got to a beach on the other side – Devil’s Bay. Once there we had to trace the same steps back to get to the beach to snorkel, but it was worth it. The snorkeling was amazing – although a bit scary as the boulders also created a maze with some strong currents that we had to fight to stay away from hitting the rocks and the corals. We saw fish of every color before swimming back to the ship for some rum punch and dancing.
